Off Highway Temporary Operation Permits

AUTHORITY:

Tenn. Code Ann. § 55-4-702

DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Revenue is authorized to issue and renew off-highway vehicle temporary operation permits in lieu of registration plates for Class I and Class II off-highway vehicles, as defined in Tenn. Code Ann. § 55-8-101, that are owned or leased by nonresidents. The cost of an off-highway vehicle temporary operation permit is $6.00, plus any applicable county fees, as provided by Tenn. Code Ann. § 55-4-702. An off-highway vehicle temporary operation permit is valid for a period of 30 days but may be renewed upon payment of an additional $6.00 fee, plus any applicable county fees.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

  • Please note: Tennessee residents are not eligible to apply for temporary off-highway vehicle temporary operation permits.
  • Not all county clerk locations issue such permits.
  • Only available for Class I and Class II off highway vehicles.
